Women who like to look different and change their image every once in a while are always on the lookout for the next best thing in the world of cosmetics and beauty products.

Hair chalk has been the talk of the town after many celebrities were spotted with colored hair in certain events. These include Selena Gomez, Loran Conrad and Katy Perry. These trendsetters have now millions of young girls and women following their hair craze, creating new looks using soft hair chalks.

According to hair stylist Fouzia Al-Mahfouthi of Eve Salon, hair chalk is basically soft pastel chalk that women use to add a bit of color to their hair.

Hair chalk offers a great way to temporarily add color to your locks and it looks very similar to dye but without any commitment. You can wash off the color in less then 20 days by shampooing your hair ten times.

This summer, Saudi-based salons attracted a huge number of women who were looking to have artistic and colorful locks. “I love dying my hair but I worry a lot about the damage it does whenever I bleach or dye it in strong colors. There isn’t any color that I haven’t done so far and this is why I was attracted to try hair chalks,” said Ashwag Mohammed, a stay-at-home mother. “I am looking to try the hair chalk and design peacock feathers on my hair before I travel to Barcelona this summer. I think it would look amazing when I’m on the beach and I don’t have to worry about the color staying for long after my vacation,” she added.

A trendy new hairstyle comprises dip-dying the ends of the hair with chalk, which won’t damage the tips of the hair and comes off quickly. “This is a great way to change the look without worrying too much about the damage. Some women worry because the ends of their hair are usually the most damaged ones and they might worsen with dye” said Al-Mahfouthi.

Apart from coloring just the hair tips, women are also coloring the whole head in pastel colors such as rose gold, lavender, baby blue and mint green. “These colors suit women with blonde hair because the new color shows easily on lighter hair. Women with darker hair should definitely go for stronger colors and neons,” said the hair stylist. “Women can mix between warm and cool colors to create different dimensions. Those having platinum blonde hair are the luckiest as they can create romantic locks, which will look flattering with soft makeup,” she added.

Do it yourself:

1) Wet your hair that you want to color.

2) Twist your hair and stroke with a soft pastel (like the chalks you create art with).

3) Let the hair dry and run a brush through the hair to remove excess chalk.

4) Style your hair in a way where it will not mess a lot. It is best to braid your hair or pin it up in a bun to save your clothes from getting stained with the new color of your hair.

5) When you wash your hair, make sure you use a quality conditioner to ensure moist and shiny hair. Hair masks are also recommended especially during the summer season knowing your hair is exposed to the sun and the chlorine in the swimming pool.

Tips:

1) If you have dark colored hair, try it with wet hair. This way you will have more pigmented colors that will stay long with you.

2) Your hands might also get stained so make sure you wash them with cold water and soap.

3) The best part of hair chalking is styling it. Learn different hair styles and easy to do buns.

4) Make sure to wear an old shirt or a non-valuable one because this treatment tends to bleed on the fabric you are wearing.

You shouldn’t chalk your hair too often. At the end of the day, you’re using a powder pigment on your hair that can extract a lot of natural moisture and oils that you need for healthy looking hair.
