Last week, I came to an end with the interview of Suzanne Somers with Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski. As a young medical student in Poland, our scientist discovered that certain important protective enzymes were missing in cancer patients. He thought of a way to replace the deficiency with enzymes, which he calls antineoplastons (ANPs). By replacing the missing enzymes, he noticed positive responses in his patients, whose cancers gradually went into remission. That is how he came up with this effective alternative therapy to treat cancer. He even found success with ANPs in treating the hardiest cancers such as liver, pancreas, lung, brain, and breast (BRCA1), which do not usually respond to conventional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiation.

With the interview done, I would like, today, to relate to you some of Dr. Burzynski’s success stories with his alternative cancer therapy. These stories are told by cured cancer “patients in their own words.” I decided to abridge the stories and give you just the scoop, as it is said. What you want to hear is the outcome of the success of the treatment.

Mary Jo Siegel of California was diagnosed with low-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1989. This type of cancer had practically no chance of cure with orthodox treatment. Her symptoms started a year before the diagnosis. She had excruciating stomach pain and had bouts of diarrhea. She also kept vomiting often. As a result, she lost ten pounds. In the emergency room, doctors kept treating her symptoms for an ulcer. After no response to medications, a doctor suggested a CAT scan, which showed a tumor. However, the previous scan failed to detect it, because the intestines were folded over themselves due to the spasm. It was diagnosed a stage IV cancer and a terminal case. Chemotherapy and radiation failed to give the desired results. Her doctor at UCLA recommended a bone marrow transplant, which was only available in Boston. The procedure promised only a ten percent chance of improvement. She packed and went eastward. Though she went all the way over to Boston, she opted not to go ahead with the procedure.

Researching a cure for her case led her to Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski in Houston. She and her husband liked his approach of cancer treatment, as his therapy seemed nontoxic and gentler on the patient. Mary Jo found his method of treatment less invasive and more appealing. As she walked into his clinic, she felt it to be a caring environment. She expressed that in her words, ”I felt there was hope, true hope. He was using only antineoplastons then, and I was offered the pump or capsules and I chose capsules.”

She was put on the capsules for three months. During that period, she felt the tumor on her neck growing bigger. In panic, she called Dr. Burzynski who told her, “This means one of two things: either the cancer is indeed growing, or the cancer cells are dying and sometimes when they die it causes the tumor to get a little bigger.” She flew back to Houston. There she felt more reassured, because he was close to her most of the time, supporting her. This time, he changed the method of delivering the ANPs. He replaced the capsules with the pump. He implanted a catheter in her chest.

The amazing part was when the medication started flowing straight into the bloodstream, the tumor on her neck subsided one night three weeks later. Dr. Burzynski continued the treatment for another nine months before he declared Mary Jo’s cancer in remission. She went back home and resumed her normal life. The other good side about the treatment, she says, is that it did not produce pain or any of the side effects that come with chemo or radiation. It is only a rigid regimen that she had to follow precisely. Luckily, it was manageable.

Back in UCLA, the doctors “pronounced [her cancer] in remission,” but her treating doctor back home called Burzynski “a charlatan and a fraud.” His accusations, of course, cannot be taken seriously, as facts speak for themselves.

Mary Jo continued her story. She was infuriated when Burzynski was later indicted and was about to be put in jail for using unconventional cancer therapy on dying cancer patients who had no other alternative. Her husband took leave of his work for two months and both of them went to Houston to attend the trial and testify for the good doctor. They joined the many cured patients, their families, and activists who marched and stood up for Dr. Burzynski. Strange enough, the media and people on the streets joined in the march. The jurors could not believe that Burzynski’s cancer patients looked healthier than the jurors themselves. After the acquittal, the cured patients, families, and jurors celebrated the victory with a party.

When Mary Jo wrote about her healed cancer and testimonial for Dr. Burzynski, she had been already seventeen years into her remission and free of cancer. She managed to raise her young children and enjoy them. She saw them grow into beautiful young people and attended their graduations. She has also become a happy grandma; something she never dreamed of when she had the cancer. She is always grateful to God for sending her to this brave doctor. She says that now she helps cancer patients who are desperate like she was. She recommends and refers them to Dr. Burzynski for treatment. She is confident of their healing from cancer with ANPs.

I purposely chose some of Burzynski’s cancer patients’ testimonials to demonstrate that the above Stage IV and terminal cancers are real and devastating, but they are curable or manageable through alternative methods with nutrient, enzymes, supplements, diet, and healthy lifestyles rather than just with conventional protocols. Their flexibility allows them to be combined with chemo and radiation to improve their effectiveness and reduce their ravaging and painful side effects. Chemotherapy destroys immune systems, leaving cancer patients defenseless and depleted. Radiation sometimes leaves skin burns and could affect surrounding tissues and nearby internal organs. At times, multiple courses of chemo are given to unresponsive cancers without success, making the patients face death with the least hope and energy, which makes them wish for death in order to be spared the agony, pain, struggle, and despair for themselves and family members, not to mention the heavy load of the high costs of chemotherapy, which could escalate to hundreds of thousands of US dollars as I mentioned in earlier articles of this series.

Next week, I shall continue writing about the other testimonials, Insha’Allah, which are equally miraculous as Mary Jo’s story.
