Two weeks ago, I was discussing how Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski treats the leading killer cancers that strike the brain, pancreas, liver, lung, and breasts. He applies his own method of enzymes, antineoplastons (ANPs), and gene-targeted therapy along with nutritious personalized diets and supplements to correct deficiencies. This combination of therapies is even effective on stage IV cancers and terminal cases. Let us hear what he says in his interview with Suzanne Somers.
Dr. Burzynski explains that his treatment has an even higher success, when patients have not been subjected to chemotherapy, radiation, or any other conventional therapies before coming to his clinic, as such chemicals destroy the immune system and make it harder for his treatment to succeed. Patients would have a better chance to fight the cancer without previous therapies. Those with pancreatic cancer as well as liver cancer respond well within three weeks to ANP treatment. Patients with tumors and advanced cancers have seen their growths go into remission in two months with antineoplastons and gene targeted therapy. Because conventional protocols are ineffective on these cancers, survival rate is close to nil and their side effects are ravaging.
Even with stage IV pancreatic cancer and metastasized tumors, patients can see them disappear within two to three months. Liver tumors could also disappear within “a couple of months,” while chemo could be a total failure on advanced liver cancer. He says all that is needed is to “find the right [gene] switch” to “get rid of the cancer stem cells.”
Lung cancer is a leading killer cancer (1.3 million deaths) and liver cancer fatalities result in 600,000 deaths. Unfortunately, the latter is expected to rise considerably due to hepatitis B virus infecting 2 billion people around the world. China alone has close to 400 million infected people. Due to its very small size, the virus attaches to the DNA, stays dormant for a long time, and becomes capable of switching off the cancer protective genes (150 protective genes). Ten percent of hepatitis B patients will eventually develop liver cancer and the mortality rate of the cancer can rise to 97 percent of the cases.
Most of them are located in Southeast Asia. The virus can be transmitted through blood, contaminated needles (reused needles among drug users), sex, and from mother to fetus. The problem of the virus is that it is very resistant and survives for a week in a drop of blood. It can also be transmitted through unsanitized medical instruments (at dentists) and tattoo and manicure tools. Along with hygienic precautions, vaccination against hepatitis B does limit the development and spreading of the virus.
Ingesting foods (peanuts, grains) contaminated with aflatoxins (a toxic mold) can lead to liver cancer by blocking tumor suppressor genes. Ten million people are already infected around the world. While gene-targeted therapy shows effectiveness in the treatment of liver cancer, chemotherapy fails to do so.
Burzynski treated seven patients in his clinic with supplements and gene-targeted therapy. Because some supplements work against each other and sometimes provoke the cancer, the supplement instructions should be followed strictly and patients should be closely watched. A nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle practices are also required to speed remission. Patients, who were previously treated with chemo, should follow the rules strictly too; otherwise they may increase their risk of developing another type of cancer. The prescribed supplements keep the DNA and genome in good condition.
Our genome is made of 22,000 genes. We only use 10 percent of our genes until the age of 25; the remaining others remain silent or unused. The older we get; the more genes are shut down, such as the ones responsible for certain functions that stop working (hair loss, menopause…). Some important genes that are sometimes silenced are the ones that protect against cancer. With liver cancer, 150 genes become inactivated.
Somers asks Burzynski of the methods that protect us from cancer or its recurrence. He recommends reactivating the dormant genes. For cancer patients, antineoplastons are used to get rid of the cancer stem cells and switch on the silent genes that prevent deadly illnesses.
Burzynski says that certain natural and active ingredients in plants and herbs can also come to the rescue of cancer patients like curcumin in turmeric root (studies show when mixed with ginger or black pepper, the spices cause cancer cell destruction), genistein in soy, and polyphenols in green tea. Their powerful antioxidants counteract free radicals, chemicals, toxins, stress, inflammation, sleep loss, biological clock imbalances, and unhealthy diet (sugar, soda drinks, refined and processed foods, fries…), which shut down gene activity.
Viruses, carcinogens, heavy metals, and pollution are also suppressors of active genes against cancer and tumors, thus leading to cell mutations and sometimes “permanent changes.” According to the scientist, unhealthy practices like “cigarette smoking” along with sedentary lifestyles (lack of exercise) do the same. He says, “Coke can silence a good number of genes.” Together, they “will speed up gene silencing.”
Burzynski speaks about the supplement, Amino-care. It acts on the genes of lab animals ”by influencing the activity of the genes.” These compounds are already found in the body, in dairy products and royal jelly (food of queen bee), which lives sixty times longer than the worker bees. The extracted chemicals have the potency to activate silenced genes.
He continues saying that “hormones are also genetic switches.” Because they regulate gene activity, they stimulate their action. Hormonal imbalances speed the process of cancer. Hormones and antineoplastons have similar actions on genes. He says that the blood transports hormones to “the cells and regulate[s] gene expression… Inside the cells most of these hormones go into the nucleus and will work as molecular switches. They will activate some genes and silence others.” Their activities may be unknown to many doctors, he says. ANPs perform similar work.
For instance, testosterone was found to be of valuable importance to prostate cancer patients. What is bad for cancer is dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a derivative of too much testosterone. Unfortunately, testosterone was subsequently blamed for stimulating the cancer. To be exact, too much or too little of any chemical or hormone is harmful. The right balance is required for adequate body functions.
Burzynski explains: “Cancer is like a combination of numerous different types of illnesses, and each of these different types of cancer has numerous genetic signatures, so one cancer patient is not the same as the others.” No two cancer patients have the same exact cancer; hence should not be given the exact same therapy. For each patient, the therapy should be personalized to address that particular cancer.
He speaks of the peptide therapy as harmless to patients’ fertility and reproductive systems and even to their children. After ANP treatment, they live full, normal, and active lives. The success of the treatment is also gratifying to the treating doctor.
This is the end of Suzanne Somers interview with the scientist. Next week Insha’Allah, I shall relate to you some of Dr. Burzynski’s success stories, “patients in their own words,” but I shall keep them short in order to give you the scoop, as they say. That is what interests you.
