This is with reference to the report “Pacts boost KSA-Russia relations” (June 19). The obvious shift in Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy is very timely. The Saudi policy has undergone a change that mirrors the political acumen of the Kingdom’s leadership. These changes are very much in line with the changing geostrategic scenario. It is heartening to note that the Kingdom has shunned the policy of wait and watch. Instead of continuing with its quiet style of conducting business, Saudi Arabia appears to have become more vocal and is aggressively pursuing its policies.
This style should continue for a decade or so. It is not only in the larger interest of the Kingdom but also for the entire Muslim world. Saudi Arabia is the undisputed leader of the Muslim world. The leadership of this country commands great respect among Muslims all across the world. Saudi Arabia should tell the world that its pacifist approach should not be perceived as its weakness. The Kingdom is fully capable of defending itself. It is heartening to note that Saudi Arabia is on the roll and trying to forge new alliances with other global players. This is what a leadership is all about!
