You probably wish that people on Facebook will have the courtesy to ask if you want to be added to a Facebook group before they do it; but since they don’t, and Facebook basically doesn’t give a damn about your privacy, here’s how you can deal with it:

Manage group notifications

If you don’t mind being a member of a certain group, and you do occasionally participate in it; you can simply turn the notifications off so that you won’t be disturbed by this group. Most of us are members of too many groups. This means tens or hundreds of notifications everyday. Follow these simple steps to turn notifications off:

1- Choose to the group you would like to turn its notifications off from the left column on your Facebook Homepage. If you can’t see it, click on “more” next to “Groups”.

2- Click on “Notifications” on the top-right.

3- Select what kind of notifications you would like to receive: all notifications (All posts), friends activity on that group (Friends’ posts), no notifications at all (off)

Leave group

Tired of receiving notifications AND seeing the name of that group on the left column of your homepage? Leave it and never look back:

1- Choose to the group you would like to leave from the left column on your Facebook Homepage. If you can’t see it, click on “more” next to “Groups”.

2- Click on the star-like icon on the top-right corner of the group’s page.

3- Click on “Leave Group”.

When you leave a group:

• Members won't be notified

• You're removed from the member list and the group will be removed from your list of groups

• You'll no longer get group notifications
