Eyeing Muslim vote

This refers to the article “BJP eyes Muslim vote” (April 9) by Nilofar Suhrawardy. The article was excellent and the writer analyzed the dilemma facing the main opposition party of India quite succinctly. Indeed, Indian Muslims cannot forget Gujarat riots in 2002 and demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.
As a matter of fact, Babri Masjid was demolished during the Congress party rule at the center while the Gujarat carnage was carried out when the BJP-led government was at the helm. In reality both these parties have not done any good thing for Muslims. It is a sad reality that there is no single political party in the country that is interested in uplift and progress of the Muslim community.
It’s high time Muslims realized this and stop fighting among themselves on the basis of caste and creed. They can form their own party to contest elections.
Given the population, they can easily win some seats, which will put them in a position to bring their problems to the fore and force the government to address the same. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
