DUBAI: The homeless man who became an instant hero when he rushed to help victims of the Manchester bombing last month should be housed within days, according to a report in The Independent.
Stephen Jones, 35, was sleeping near Manchester Arena as Ariana Grande performed before thousands of fans.
As the concert finished and people left the arena Salman Abedi detonated an improvised explosive device, killing 22, including children, and injuring dozens more.
With terrified people fleeing the scene, Jones ran toward the carnage where he found “a lot of children with blood all over them crying and screaming.”
At the time, he told Britain’s ITV News: “They needed the help. I’d like to think that someone would come and help me if I needed the help… It was just my instinct to go and help people out.”
Since his courageous act, he has been spotted on the streets, with a sleeping bag and his possessions on a central Manchester street.
Now David Sullivan Jr, son of the West Ham United chairman, has spoken out, saying that Jones was no longer homeless.
The 17-year-old explained on Twitter that Jones had been staying in a hotel, adding that he had been paying the bill for the recovering drug addict.
In a telephone conversation between the two men, Jones explained that he was no longer homeless and that he was simply waiting for the keys to be handed over for his new home, once the paperwork was complete.
“Things don’t just happen overnight,” Jones added.
He added that he had addressed his “drug problem” adding “now I’m addressing my housing problem.”
He said that the housing association required certain documents and that then he could move into the property, which he said he expected to happen this week.
