ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has officially announced the Senate election 2018 results of all 52 seats of general, technocrat, non-Muslim, and women reserved categories from the federal capital, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and the four provinces.
Pakistan’s ruling party Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the single largest party in the Upper House of the parliament.
President of PML-N and Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif termed the victory “A great day for democracy ... A great day for PML-N.”
In his tweet he said: “Congratulations to all the newly elected senators & thanks to all the PML-N parliamentarians. A strong PML-N is central to a strong and democratic Pakistan. Pakistan Zindabad (long live Pakistan)!”
Islamabad
From the federal capital, the PML-N-backed candidates, Muhammad Asad Ali Khan Junejo and Mushahid Hussain Syed, won the elections.
FATA
From the tribal region, Shamim Afridi, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Hidayat Ullah and Hillal Ur Rehman were the successful candidates.
Punjab
Seven winning candidates on general seats include Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Dr. Asif Kirmani, Rana Mehmood ul Hassan, Shaheen Khalid Butt, Musadik Masood Malik, Rana Maqbool Ahmad and Haroon Khan.
On two reserved seats for technocrat/Ulema, the winning candidates are Hafiz Abdul Karim and Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Saadia Abbasi and Nuzhat Sadiq won the two reserved seats for women, while Kamran Michael was elected on one seat for non-Muslims from Punjab.
Sindh
The seven winning candidates on general seats are Mian Raza Rabbani, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Jamot, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Muhammad Farogh Naseem, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Maula Bux Chandio and Imamuddin Shouqeen.
The two reserved seats for technocrat/Ulema in Sindh were won by Dr. Sikandar Mandhro and Rukhsana Zuberi.
Quratulain Marri and Keshoo Bai won the two reserved seats for women while Anwar Lal Dean was elected on one non-Muslim seat from Sindh.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)
The seven winning candidates on general seats from KP include Muhammad Talha Mehmood, member of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazalur Rahman (JI), Faisal Javed from the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah (independent candidate), Muhammad Ayub from PTI, Behramand from Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP), Fida Muhammad from PTI, and Mushtaq Ahmed from Jamat-e-Islami (JI).
On the two reserved seats for technocrat/Ulema, Muhammad Azam Khan Swati from PTI and Dilawar Khan (independent candidate) won the election while the two seats reserved for women were bagged by Mehar Taj Roghani of the PTI, and Robina Khalid of PPPP.
Balochistan
The seven winning candidates on general seats are Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Ahmed Khan, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Kohda Babar, Molvi Faiz Muhammad and Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen.
On the two reserved seats for women, Abida Muhammad Azeem and Sana Jamali were successful, while on the two reserved seats for technocrat/Ulema, the winning candidates are Muhammad Tahir Bizinjo and Naseebullah Bazai.
