ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday called his Malaysian counterpart Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to congratulate him on the election victory achieved by the Pakatan Harapan coalition, of which Mohamad is chairman.
They discussed issues facing the Muslim world, including Kashmir and Palestine, said Abbasi’s office.
He expressed his appreciation at Malaysia’s smooth and peaceful conduct of elections and transfer of power, saying this reflects the country’s maturity. Pakatan Harapan’s victory reflects the people’s trust in Mohamad’s leadership, Abbasi added.
The two leaders also discussed Pakistani-Malaysian relations. Abbasi’s office said he “expressed his keen desire to further strengthen bilateral relations by exploring and exploiting potential in diverse fields,” including the economy, investment, energy, defense and tourism.
He underscored the need for two-way high-level visits, including parliamentary exchanges, to bolster bilateral ties. Abbasi invited Mohamad to visit Pakistan.
Mohamad thanked Abbasi “for his wishes, and affirmed his commitment to further strengthen and deepen bilateral ties,” the latter’s office said.
