CAIRO: Egypt’s population reached 103 million on Tuesday, an increase of 1 million in 232 days, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
The population had reached 102 million on July 5, 2021. CAPMAS said the previous rise of 1 million was achieved in 275 days.
Between July 5 last year and Feb. 22 this year, the country recorded 1.431 million births — one every 14 seconds.
CAPMAS said at the current rate of growth, Egypt’s population will reach 124 million in 2032.
It stressed the need for wide-raging and coordinated efforts to control the rate of population growth, which poses major economic, social, environmental and security challenges.
In terms of population size, Egypt is first among Arab countries, third in Africa and 14th globally.
