DUBAI, 7 July 2006 — The first-ever robotics competition for schools in the UAE entitled, “UAE National Robotics Olympiad”, is to be held under the auspices of the UAE Ministry of Education in Dubai on Oct. 4.
The initiative will provide a platform for students from schools in the UAE to test their creative ability, problem-solving skills and capabilities in robotic design, and will also help find the best robotic talent in the country.
Based on the contestants’ innovative, creative and technological abilities, a panel of judges will select youngsters for top UAE team which will then be sent on an all-expenses-paid trip to China to compete in the International Robotics Championship (IRC) at the World Robot Olympiad.
The IRC is a worldwide robot-design tournament and will be held in the Chinese city of Nanning between Nov. 16 and 18.
The UAE is the only country in the GCC that has been invited to participate in the championship.
The Dubai based knowledge solutions provider EDUTECH along with LEGO Education will sponsor the UAE team’s trip to China.
“We are very pleased to organize this competition in the UAE, taking into consideration that UAE schools have a very high standard of education, with robotics being used extensively in their curriculum, and also since the number of students opting for science and technology studies in the country has been growing steadily,” said A.S.F. Karim, managing director of EDUTECH.
The UAE National Robotics Olympiad in the high school category will be restricted to children aged between 16 and 18. The competition will follow a ‘City Environment’ theme.
