JEDDAH: The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh has opened the trial of a Saudi citizen accused of supporting the Daesh terrorist group and getting into contact with an enemy of the state.
The contact was established through the TV channel “Al-Islah.”
The defendant was accused of abusing drugs, possessing items that pose a threat to state security and of establishing two Twitter accounts insulting the state.
The judge delivered his indictment and a date was set for the defendant to respond to the charges.
The indictment contained a series of charges including pledging allegiance to Daesh, promoting the group’s activities, showing disloyalty to the leader of the country and instigating public opinion against Gulf states.
He was also charged with preparing items detrimental to the state, which is punishable under the anti-cybercrime law, through two Twitter accounts through which he insulted the state, its policies and its leaders.
The defendant was also charged with accessing banned websites known for their enmity to the Kingdom and communicating with one of deviants and his TV channel called “Al-Islah,” with possession of pornographic material and abuse of hashish and banned pills.
The defendant has a history of violating the law. He had also been involved in a rape case.
