This is with reference to the article “Sleepwalking into trouble” (Sept. 5) by Seema Sengupta. It is sad to note the behavior of the Afghan leaders toward Pakistan. Former President Hamid Karzai is not doing any service to his country and people. We all know how popular Karzai is among the Afghans. He failed to do anything positive as the president of his country and now unnecessarily creating problems for the current government.
The problem with Afghanistan is that most, if not all, of its leaders are not serious about restoring peace in the country. Instead of accusing Pakistan of stoking unrest in the country, the Afghan authorities should review their own role.
Passing the blame to external forces is the easiest thing to do. The main challenge is to take bold measures to identify and eliminate the internal causes of the unrest. Karzai is nowadays working on a foreign agenda to undermine the Ghani administration for his own political interests. — Agha Kareem, Jubail
