The battle is an ongoing one. Social media is nourishing it and communication apps (e.g. WhatsApp) are ‘grouping’ millions of fans. New studies prove that this war is the main reason behind hundreds of divorces! Nguyen Ha Dong, the Vietnamese Flappy bird game creator, decided that he ‘cannot take it anymore’ and therefore shut down his game! I doubt that ‘WhatsApp’ will do the same, especially since its move to Facebook.
The new tools of communication are seen by many social observers as tools of deprivation. But the main battle, aside from ideology, is still that of man versus woman. In Saudi Arabia, 8,000 divorce cases were attributed to indulgence in social media and smart phone apps. The ‘status’ used by men versus that used by wives is taken as a declaration of war!
The state of mind, emotions and impressions are send-able at any time. No physical existence, sound collection or even e-mail is required anymore. All you have got to have for starting a battle is a smart phone!
