This should make a difference. The governor of Riyadh announced that in less than two weeks, great news about public transportation will come to citizens and expats. He also stated that public buses, precisely, will be ready to move ‘Riyadhers’ around very soon.
Apart from traffic jams, I still believe that launching such a huge project will be of great benefit, mainly, to Saudi women. Especially those who cannot accept work offers because of some transportation issues, along with the driving ban. This move should ease their reach to work locations and it should reshape the functional role of female participation.
On the other hand, I also see an economical effect on Saudis who drive small buses around Riyadh and those who depend on taxi driving income. No clear solutions are publicized until now. Yet, I believe that such a project should raise the levels of competition for the best of all ‘Riyadhers.’
