Saudi Arabia bears great responsibilities, and at the same time is exposed to a major attack. Its fate has perhaps put it in that position.

Geopolitically, countries, which suffer from internal problems, surround Saudi Arabia. And one regional country is Iran, which is meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries, spreading chaos, backing militias and undermining regional stability.

Saudi Arabia and its sister GCC countries are playing a key role in restoring security and stability.

In the meantime, Saudi Arabia is playing an important humanitarian role, reaffirming the importance of human life and dignity, in accordance with the provisions of Islam, as affirmed by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman last year at the launch of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid.

Saudi Arabia has a deep-rooted philosophy when it comes to humanitarian work for the needy anywhere. However, it has expressed its deep sorrow over the allegations of Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch on the alleged rights violations by the Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen.

Saudi Permanent Envoy at the UN in Geneva Faisal Trad said his country “regrets such allegations and continued rejection of facts by the two organizations provided by the coalition, the legitimate Yemeni government and community organizations on the real situation in Yemen and the violations committed by the Houthi coup plotters and their supporters since March 2015.”

Saudi officials, meanwhile, have stressed that they were taking the alleged attacks on civilians and children seriously and that Saudi Arabia and coalition forces have made arrangements to ensure such incidents don’t occur and pledged to inform the UN on the outcome of investigations into such allegations.

In reality, there are international organizations, including those affiliated to UN organizations, which have appreciated the Saudi stance and its humanitarian support. According to Financial Tracking Service, Saudi Arabia was the biggest provider of assistance to all parts of Yemen in 2015.

The UN Development Programme, in its report on Monday, clearly said that Saudi Arabia is among the world’s top aid donors to developing and needy countries.

This reflects the reality of the situation where Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of world countries in terms of the volume of humanitarian aid provided to countries, irrespective of their faiths or systems, without seeking any benefits except for helping the distressed and brothers in humanity.

To that end came the establishment of the King Salman center with a SR1 billion donation for it in addition to another SR1 billion allocated for the same objective. The center was given an independent and legal entity to allow staff to work freely in order to achieve the set objectives in cooperation with international organizations working in this field, thus giving it a pure humanitarian aspect away from any other motives, unlike many other entities which seek to achieve political goals under the pretext of humanitarian work and programs.

Figures speak of the volume of aid being provided by Saudi Arabia to the Yemeni people, not confined to financial support, but also relief and medical assistance. The Kingdom continues to provide such support without any conditions and calls for the removal of siege from Yemeni cities for providing assistance to the Yemeni people.

Saudi assistance is distinguished in that it is not linked to any political agenda and, even when it earlier provided assistance worth half-a-billion dollars to the Iraqi people, the Kingdom insisted that the aid be offered through UN organizations and for all Iraqi people, regardless of their religious, sectarian or ethnic affiliations.

The long-standing policy of Saudi Arabia is — humanitarian work encompasses all away from any subjective or political agendas.
