Prank that cost dearly

This refers to the Arab News report, “Royal nurse dies after prank,” published on Dec. 9.
A ‘nurse for the queen’ that is how Jacintha Saldanha was called by her immediate neighbors, who committed suicide in apparent shame, after she transferred a hoax call from Australian DJs, who retrieved sensitive information about Kate Middleton while in hospital.
She was a hard working mother of two who moved to the UK from India 10 years ago. She is said to have moved to Britain from Mangalore in Karnataka state having previously spent time in the Middle East. Prince William and his pregnant wife Kate have expressed their concern how they are deeply saddened by the tragedy.
What a tragic end to a supposed prank. The DJs showed a complete lack of respect to the hospital employees and the patient, no matter who they had been trying to get information about, royalty or otherwise. Our thoughts are with the nurse’s immediate family and friends at this desperately sad time. I strongly feel that both DJs should be fired as a lesson to others not to try such irresponsible pranks on innocent lives. Nursing, as everyone knows, is a very stressful profession and at 5.30 in the morning Jacintha would have been very tired and vulnerable. These two DJs, I am sure, will have to live the rest of their lives with the guilt of causing death of a devoted mother, a loving wife and a dutiful nurse, nicknamed a ‘nurse for the queen’. —
