The number of lawsuits received by Saudi courts in major cities across the Kingdom reached 201,903 cases over the last five months, according to data generated by the Ministry of Justice’s e-indexes.

Riyadh captured the highest proportion of the cases at 82,358, followed by Makkah (64,404), Jeddah (43,213), Madinah (23,846), and Dammam (18,082).

On a monthly basis, Safar registered the highest number of cases at 41,064, followed by Muharram (39,282), Rabi II (38,555), Rabi I (36,586), Jumada I (34,971), and Jumada II (11,445), the data revealed.

Last month, the Ministry of Justice said that Saudi courts had received some 4,940 lawsuits filed against money defaulters over the past four months across 13 regions. Riyadh courts received the highest portion of money default cases at 34 percent or 1,670 cases, followed by Makkah Region (993), the Eastern Province (693) and Asir Region (364).

On family-related issues, the Saudi courts received a total of 84,000 child custody and alimony cases during the last seven months.

Cases of child custody and alimony reached 43,000 and 41,000, respectively, with Riyadh registering the highest portion of alimony cases at 1,122, followed by Jeddah (768) and Makkah (394).
