JEDDAH: There are about 30 ancient buildings on the verge of collapse in the old part of Jeddah, which pose a threat to the public in the streets and nearby buildings.

Despite these hazards, the authorities are not doing anything to restore or demolish them, according citizens and residents quoted by a local publication recently.

Abdullah Al-Matari, Ahmad Al-Yafiei and Abdulsalam Al-Matari, residents of the district, said the danger increases when there are festivals and other public events held in the area.

They said there are many buildings that have been neglected. In addition, many have collapsed in the area. Something must be done before there is a tragedy, especially with children playing nearby. They said a committee should be formed to deal with the situation.
