According to statistics issued by the Public Pension Agency (PPA), 46.7 percent of the state’s employees retired before reaching the age of 50; 20.8 percent of these employees retired between the ages of 45 and 49, 12.7 percent between the ages of 40 and 44, and 7.4 percent between the ages of 35 and 39.
Thirty-two percent of these employees retired before the early retirement age, 7 percent of whom cite health reasons as the cause of retirement.
Women make up 40 percent of beneficiaries, while wives make up 27 percent and males make up 24 percent. The PPA’s statistics show the total number of retirees reached 617,070 people by the end of 1435 AH, of which 460,280 retirees are still alive. A total of 45.3 billion riyals was spent on retirement benefits for the year 1434 AH-1435 AH.
Statistics show the number of beneficiaries reached 392,298 people by the end of 1435 AH, of which 40.1 percent are relatives of retirees.
The majority of retirees fall in the age groups of 49-49 and 50-54, while 20.4 percent of retirees are between the ages of 60 and 64 years old.
The official mandatory age of retirement for civilian staff and some military ranks is 60 years of age.
