TAIF: Six people have been arrested in a case involving the death of a five-year-old girl by a bullet fired by an unidentified person.

The girl, Shmoukh, was playing in the yard of her house in Alwasit neighborhood of Taif when she was hit by the stray bullet.

“The police have made some arrests and investigations are under way,” a source was quoted as saying by a local newspaper on Tuesday.

The bullet went through the shoulder of the girl and settled in her heart. She was taken to a private clinic and later transferred to King Abdulaziz hospital, where she succumbed to the injury.

The police in Taif governorate, represented in Al-Houya police station, launched an investigation into the case, Ati bin Atiyah Al-Qurashi, spokesman of the Makkah Police said. A team of officers from the Makkah police left for the scene of the incident after receiving a call.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the girl was shot by mistake. The suspects have been referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution.
