RIYADH: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) has issued a stern warning to real estate and public service sectors after its inspectors found 65 violations in Riyadh.

According to a statement issued by the MCI, violators face stiff punishment such as fines up to SR25,000 and closure of business for one year. “The licenses of repeat offenders could be revoked permanently.”

The inspectors have referred the violations to the competent authorities for appropriate action.

The irregularities included excessive commission on sale or lease transactions of more than 2.5 percent of the value of the property or rent.

Violations were also committed in combining real estate activities with other commercial operations as well as in non-updating of business registration.

The ministry also renewed its call on all public service offices not to meddle with the recruitment process as it would be a violation of existing rules and procedures.

It said that strict implementation of rules and regulations is in consonance with efforts to create a good and just business environment and to take into account the rights of customers.

“It is also a way to contribute to the organization of the market to ensure the protection of the rights of all parties concerned,” the ministry added.
