RIYADH: A total of 790 decisions over the past year that were submitted to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs have not been implemented.

A source from the municipality said that some reasons were the clash of such decisions with the rules, regulations and instructions as well the municipal requirements or overlapping jurisdiction of other government agencies.

The same source confirmed the lack of follow-up with the municipal councils also due to need for consent of other government agencies.

Meanwhile, the source explained that the number of inspections and field visits concerning the needs of the citizens of municipal projects and services amounted to 5,446 visits.

While the number of meetings and sessions stood at 3,804 sessions over the last year, during which they have came up with 7,828 resolutions, of which 4,886 implemented have been completed.

Talking about the upcoming election, Poll Executive Committee Chairman Spokesman Jadeei Al-Qahtani said that the municipal elections are being monitored by the General Election Observers and handled by civil society institutions, including the Human Rights Association, who are allowed to enter polling centers.

He said they are also allowed to access all proceedings and any stage of the electoral process in the centers to make observations and take notes.

Speaking on the participations of younger voters he said, “We have a new system this year so that all segments of society are encourage to participate in the elections, including 18-year-old voters (female and male) as they represent a large number of the population in the Kingdom,” the spokesman said.
