A judge has been suspended after he was found guilty of violating the law by his excessive behavior against a citizen in the Abha court.

The Supreme Judicial Council took the decision after an investigation, which was ordered following a complaint against the judge.

It all started when a person engaged in a verbal discussion with another person who had come to the court to submit a bail document in a case against him.

Infuriated over this, the judge ordered the arrest of the citizen. The man immediately apologized and sought forgiveness on the grounds that he had to pick his children up from school at that time.

Some people present in the court pleaded with the judge to stop the arrest order. The judge took back the order but directed the citizen to give an undertaking that he won’t speak during court sessions and also asked him to put his fingerprints on the document.

The citizen, who followed the judge’s order, later approached the Supreme Judicial Council and the Human Rights Commission with a plea for action, sources told local media.

The judiciary council verified the allegations against the judge and issued the suspension order.

Judges in the Kingdom enjoy immunity and cannot be subjected to investigations unless ordered by the judiciary council. After the end of service, judges do not enjoy this immunity and are treated like ordinary citizens.

The judiciary council includes an inspection department that regularly monitors the work of judges.

Sources said the punishment to judges includes issuing a warning or notice, or end of service.
