An eight-year-old boy was killed after falling into a sewage tank of a three-story residential building under repairs in north Jeddah on Sunday.

This was the fourth death in identical circumstances in the city over the past few months. The victim, Ammar, was a Grade III student of a primary school and fell into the tank, which was covered with cardboard sheets, his father Muhammad Ali said.

“My son was returning home along with his twin brother, Omar, after attending classes to learn the Holy Qur’an in a nearby mosque,” he said. “Omar shouted for help after Ammar fell into the tank and came running home and informed us.”

A rescue team pulled the boy out of the tank in Al-Nuzha district, but he was already dead, said Col. Saeed Al-Ghamdi, spokesman of the Civil Defense.
