Neurosurgery consultants at Sulaiman Al-Habib Hospital in Qassim have successfully removed a tumor from the brain of 65-year-old patient, local media have reported.

The patient had suffered from acute pains and headaches due to the presence of the tumor at the bottom of his brain. His attempts to put an end to his pain brought him to many hospitals, yet no solution was found, Al-Riyadh daily said.

However, upon visiting Sulaiman Al-Habib Hospital, he was subjected to a series of medical tests including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and C.T. Scanning. The tests clearly showed the presence of a tumor at the base of the brain,º which was causing pressure on the fifth nerve and brain stem, leading to the repeated pains, the daily said.

The medical team reportedly made a small hole in the skull near to the brain stem from which they could successfully remove the tumor after a 7-hour operation. New surgical microscopes termed “Pentero” and “Causa” were used to remove and disintegrate the tumor without affecting vital brain tissues surrounding the site.
