A specialist in Irlen Syndrome has demanded that a specialized center be established for the treatment of people suffering from the condition.

Manal Al-Ariqi said Irlen Syndrome is often confused with learning difficulties. "It is a perceptual processing disorder and there is no center in the whole of the Middle East to treat patients," she was quoted as saying to a local publication.

"The brain of the person suffering from the syndrome finds it difficult to process visual information. As a result the images appear deformed and words and letters look unclear", she said.

She said there are no statistic on the syndrome in Saudi Arabia, but international studies found out it hits 12 percent of the population.
