RIYADH: Shoura Council will host a two-day meeting of the heads of legislative bodies from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Riyadh beginning Wednesday to further bolster the mutual cooperation.

“The council has called a consultative meeting in this regard to prepare for the conference,” said Mohammed Alkhnessi, a Shoura Council member, here on Monday. He, however, refused to comment on the agenda of the meeting, saying that it was yet to be finalized.

According to sources close to the council, this is a coordination meeting of the chiefs of the legislative bodies aimed at coordinating the activities of legislative and consultative bodies in the region to boost the cooperation among the GCC countries and their citizens.

Members of the GCC legislative bodies will join the parliamentary chiefs during the two-day meeting and a joint session will be held to further bolster cooperation. The GCC countries have made major advances over the decades in widening access to their people across the region and the joint efforts have strengthened unity, peace and security.
