DAMMAM: Approximately eight to 10 babies of unknown origin and with special needs are received annually by the Dammam Social Nursing Home from hospitals and police stations, according to a representative of the House.

The head of the public relations department at the nursing home, Iqbal Filimban, said of the issue: “We are looking forward to activating our ‘surrogate mother project’, because our current employees are unable to fully meet these children’s needs in terms of care and attention.”

She added that the nursing home now hosts 300 children including 72 girls, with 200 of them being hosted by volunteer families.

Indeed, these girls are prevented from spending the night outside the nursing home in order to protect them from any danger.

During a meeting hosted by the Tamkeen Association, consultant Afnan Al-Babtain reviewed methods for developing mechanisms at the Dammam Social Nursing Home in order to begin to contain the circumstances of the disabled children at the organization, and to work to provide appropriate programs through the psychiatric reform department.

Al-Babtain noted that “the total number of beneficiaries in the nursing home now reaches 478 males and females, who are distributed across many Eastern Province cities.”

In addition, the nursing home provides several development and relief programs, along with a variety of services, such as providing houses for orphans, accompanying young men when proposing to women, and providing legal and cultural services for disabled young women during marriage, Al-Babtain said.

During the meeting, some specialists said that girls hosted in the home often suffer from several psychological problems, which obliges them to attend the training courses of the home.
