More than 40 supervisors affiliated with the Jeddah Municipality have launched a large-scale campaign in local markets to expose restaurants committing health violations in southern Jeddah neighborhoods, starting from Palestine Street and ending in the Al-Balad district in downtown Jeddah.

A source in the Al-Balad Municipality said participating teams will be divided into 10 groups, each with a supervisor from trade control, and three supervisors from participating municipality branches. Each group will conduct inspections on health and food stores in the targeted street. One group will be assigned to take food samples and send them to the labs for analysis and testing.

The campaign aims to ensure that the eateries abide by health regulations, and that they offer safe and healthy food. The campaigns are held with the participation of various municipalities, including Al-Sharfeyah and Al-Balad municipalities, as well as the General Directorate for Market Control and Licensing to conduct inspections on these restaurants and correct health violations automatically.

The municipality detected three areas with unhealthy restaurants. These were Al-Tawba Street from King Abdullah intersection until its end. Another one was found on King Khaled Street, at the intersection of Makkah Road and the University Road in the Jamia neighborhood and on the Abdullah Al-Suleiman intersection with Makkah Road.

A working mechanism has been coordinated with the cleaning companies each according to its specialization. Market supervisors in municipalities will be forced to participate in each of the campaigns according to the designated area and in coordination with Al-Balad police to give support to individuals and patrols.

The source said that the General Directorate of Licenses and Market Control will give notices to supervisors, which will be retrieved at the end of the field inspections. Cases of violations will be referred to relevant municipal authorities to complete regulatory procedures.

The instant violation correction campaign will focus on confiscating spoiled food stuff that is unsuitable for human consumption.
