JEDDAH: The police in Jazan arrested a woman student at the College of Education in the Sabya after security staff on the campus discovered a fully loaded pistol in her backpack on Monday morning while conducting a random search of students.

The student reportedly told the police that the gun belonged to her husband, which he confirmed after being brought in for questioning. He said that he had been blindsided by a security checkpoint that morning, and hid the gun in his wife’s bag. After passing the security checkpoint, both had forgotten about the gun in her bag.

Sources said the husband is under investigation, while the wife was cleared of all suspicion. The gun, for which the man does not have a license, has been confiscated.

There had been panic on the campus when students learned about the gun being found on the campus.
