The police found a car here just three hours after it was stolen in broad daylight in the heart of the capital on Tuesday.

Five men had taken an Indian expatriate’s car at knifepoint on Tuesday at around 4 p.m. in the Malaz area, as he was returning home from work.

According to the victim, who works for an engineering firm, the men stopped him from entering his apartment and threatened him with a knife. “I had to surrender my car keys, iqama and wallet which included cash and credit cards,” he said.

After receiving the complaint, the police found the stolen vehicle in the Olaya district following a search. The car was abandoned a few kilometers from the man’s apartment.

Investigations have revealed that the five men had arrived at the man’s apartment in a car they had apparently stolen at a popular fast food company in the capital.

The police are still on the lookout for the thieves. According to the complainant, the thieves were in their twenties but he could not identify them by nationality.

Meanwhile, the police recently arrested a Pakistani national who was found stealing tires from parked cars. The suspect confessed to the crime, and has been jailed pending court proceedings.
