RIYADH: A gang comprising two women and youth has been arrested for allegedly looting cash from pharmacies and snatching women’s handbags in malls.

Col. Fawaz bin Jameel Al-Maiman, police media spokesman of the Riyadh region, said the arrests were made following a number of complaints by the victims.

“All the suspects are Yemenis and in the two women are in their thirties while the man is in his twenties,” he said.

According to Al-Maiman, the two women used to enter the pharmacies with two small children and forcefully remove the cash from the Cash Machine (NCR) and walk away while the man prevented the victims from resisting the robberies.

Investigations revealed that the female suspects were also involved in snatching handbags from women at shopping malls, he said. The suspects have confessed to their crimes, said Al-Maiman, adding that the police are now conducting further investigations to ensure if more people were involved in the crimes. On completion of police inquiry, the suspects will be produced in court for necessary punishment and subsequent deportation to their home country, he added.
