The Passport Department launched an SMS campaign on Wednesday entitled “Be Legal” warning that tough action would be taken against intruders, and citizens and expatriates who transport or harbor them.

The message states that a fine of SR100,000 and above would be slapped on offenders for each intruder brought into the country. There would be no limit to the fines.

In addition, human traffickers would be jailed for up to two years, named and shamed in the media, and have their vehicles confiscated. Expatriates involved in such operations would be deported after completing their jail terms in the Kingdom.

The department’s campaign comes in the wake of several attempts by intruders to cross into Saudi territory. Border Guard officers have been instructed to shoot anyone on sight trying to enter the country illegally.

On Jan. 5, four terrorists tried to enter Saudi Arabia at its border crossing with Iraq. Three Saudi soldiers were killed in the incident.
