RIYADH: A prominent Saudi Islamic scholar is seeking honor for soldiers who died while participating in Operation Restoring Hope or in defending the Kingdom.

“The government has been doing something to help the families of fallen soldiers. But we could do more,” said Mohsin Shaikh Al-Hassan, also a TV host.

He said: “We could name some of our streets, museums, schools, buildings and other infrastructure after them to show our appreciation for their martyrdom.

“This would serve as a good example for other soldiers. They’d see that serving the country selflessly is not in vain and that it's worth emulating.”

He said these fallen heroes would see that even if they are gone, they are not forgotten.

He said that all support should also be given to their children who no longer have fathers to provide for their basic needs. He noted that the Interior Ministry “has done something for them such as giving them a substantial cash award.”

These children should also be given free education in the best universities in the Kingdom or abroad, if necessary, he said. He added that after finishing their studies, they should be given job priority in the different companies of the Kingdom.

Al-Hassan added that opportunities and benefits should be prioritized, adding that first priority should be the children of soldiers in the army or officers in the police force who died in the line of duty.

He said that second priority should be the doctors in hospitals, engineers, lawyers, teachers, sportsmen and artists, among others, and their children.

He added that third priority “are those who came to Saudi Arabia for work but whose loyalty remains to their country of origin and not to the Kingdom.”
