JEDDAH: Saudi security agencies have launched a search for terrorists who attacked a police patrol in Qatif on Monday, injuring an officer and two expatriate passersby.

Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Interior Ministry, said on Tuesday that the attack occurred in Al-Khuwailedia farming area at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

A deputy chief officer and two Indian expatriates were wounded. They were taken to a local hospital and are in a stable condition. Al-Turki said the driver of the patrol vehicle was not harmed.

He urged members of the public to contact the ministry if they have any information on the attackers. There would be severe legal repercussions for those harboring these criminals, he said.

According to reports, an Indian Embassy official confirmed that two nationals were wounded and are in a stable condition. “We are following it up,” he said.

Over the past year, mosques in the Eastern Province have been targeted by suicide bombings and shootings claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.
