RIYADH: Imam Mohammed ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) is scheduled to host its first international cybercrimes conference here next month.

The event, being organized by the faculty of computer and information sciences at the university, comes as part of IMSIU efforts to combat IT and cybercrimes which threaten national security, said Fawzan Al-Fawzan, acting rector of the university.

According to him, the latest statistics show a high level of IT-related crimes around the world and the great threat that cybercrime poses to society at large.

Cyber and IT crimes include several disciplines including law, computer science, finance, telecommunications and data analysis.

International and local experts, as well as stakeholders, have been invited to participate in the conference, which will be held along with an exhibition on the latest technologies and software used in the field of combating IT-related crimes.

The conference will highlight the need for awakening society to the gravity of the security situation in relation to the community. It will also deal with various types of cybercrimes and ways of tackling them within the framework of regulations. It will cite case studies and existing solutions that deal with this type of crime.

The event will offer current perspectives and ideas on the overall issues concerning cybersecurity.

Professionals from academia and industry as well as officials with experience in matters relating to crime information and forensic science from all over the world will participate in the conference, which will include various workshops, exhibitions, lectures and other tools.

“Using the latest techniques and methods making use of regional and global experiences in this area, the event seeks to expose such crimes and penalties,” said the dean of the college, Esa bin Abdullah Al-Esa.

It will offer awareness on procedures and mechanisms for combating IT crimes, and increase the sense of e-security among members of the community.
