Jordan has backed the military action in Yemen and condemned the Houthis for failing to seek dialogue and a peaceful resolution of the country’s problems.

“Jordan’s security is the security of Saudi Arabia,” Jamal Shamayleh, the Jordanian ambassador in the Kingdom, was quoted as saying on Friday.

“Jordan’s participation in this alliance is to support the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The relationship between the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and King Abdallah is based on a long-standing friendship and brotherhood,” he said.

“Jordan will always continue to stand by its Saudi brothers in their efforts against anyone or entity that seeks to comprise its security and integrity.” He said Yemen’s collapse could have major security implications for the Kingdom, Gulf Cooperation Council states and the region.

“It was no longer possible to remain silent about the instability and insecurity in Yemen.”

He said Iran was entitled to condemn the military action, but “our main concern now is Saudi security and saving the Yemeni people from the collapse and deterioration of their state.”

“I hope all countries will act objectively and rationally and take into account the security of their homeland and of others because this is more important than anything else.”
