RIYADH: The King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue (KACND) will select next week the best five entrants in its first film competition on topics of national cohesion and for countering extremism in all its forms.

In August last year KACND announced the move under the theme, “Your Dialogue.” It aims to encourage young people to engage in dialogue through the media. It seeks to produce video clips on relevant topics.

According to KACND, some 124 video clips of 2 to 5 minutes' duration have been submitted to the organization. They represent different ideas on the theme of national unity, highlighting both the creative and professional aspects of their production.

The participants have tried to present works dealing with the culture of tolerance and coexistence. Winners will receive SR150,000 in cash prizes as follows: SR50,000 for first prize, SR40,000 for second prize and SR30,000 for the third.

The fourth place will get SR20,000 and the fifth SR10,000. Special recognition will be given to participants who could not make it to the top 5.

According to Malik Al-Angari, a member of the competition jury, the contest has attracted a number of works which have been posted on YouTube.

Al-Angari complimented the films which are an important step in the exploration of society’s ideas and aspirations.

The competition seeks to involve young people to contribute through their efforts at spreading dialogue, moderation and confronting extremism. It also works to promote the values of citizenship and national unity within society.
