Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman inaugurated an exhibition and conference on the history of late King Fahd at the Riyadh International Exhibition and Conference Center on Tuesday.
An encyclopedia on the biography of the late king, prepared by the King Abdul Aziz Foundation (Darah) in 10 volumes, was launched during the opening ceremony. In addition to the encyclopedia, four new books were also launched at the event.
The two-week event includes a series of seminars and an exhibition to highlight the achievements of King Fahd during his lifetime.
The program organized by the children and grandchildren of King Fahd was held in collaboration with the King Abdul Aziz Foundation (Darah) under theme, “Fahd — the Spirit of Leadership.”
During the seminars that would start from Wednesday, some 29 speakers and researchers will present 40 papers and studies through seven sessions. Besides activities for families, youth and children, there will be 55 training workshops on the qualities of leadership for the youth and the nurturing of leadership in the child, under the supervision of 25 trainers with an attendance of 2,500 participants.
The organizing committee of the exhibition and conference, headed by Prince Mohammed bin Fahd, has launched a website for the occasion: www.kingfahad.sa.
Born in 1921, King Fahd studied at the Prince’s School and later at the Saudi Institute in Makkah. In 1953, during the reign of King Saud, he was appointed the country’s first minister of education, energetically contributing to the development of education in the Kingdom.
In 1962, he was appointed minister of interior, and in 1967 second deputy premier. In 1975, during the era of King Khaled, he became crown prince and first deputy premier. He became king in 1982 following the death of King Khaled.
Throughout his political career, King Fahd participated in and led various Saudi delegations, thus acquiring the expertise needed to take important decisions in both domestic and international domains.
