RIYADH: The Kingdom occupies a leading position on the list of countries providing humanitarian aid, according to Maher Elhoudraoa, King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action (KSCRHA) executive director.

He said that KSCRHA seeks to document this through the United Nations and other organizations concerned with registration of global relief and development assistance.

The center earlier sent relief goods to Mauritania, Tajikistan and Yemen. In Mauritania it distributed food baskets weighing 2,700 tons in two days of relief operations.

He said that the Kingdom, in coordination with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, will document Saudi aid and highlight the Kingdom’s role in extending humanitarian relief.

“The Kingdom provided relief assistance to Yemen alone amounting to $410 million in 2015,” the KSCRHA executive director said. In terms of mechanisms of the center’s relief operations, he said that coordination exists between KSCRHA and the Ministry of Interior.

He said that KSCRHA is assisted by charity organizations in terms of collecting donations from citizens.

He stressed that KSCRHA seeks to provide donations worthy of the name of the Kingdom’s citizens as well as the beneficiaries. Questionnaires are distributed through the center’s office in Yemen to find out if they’re satisfied with the relief they received from KSCRHA, including the distribution system and packaging.

KSCRHA has sought the help of specialized international companies to evaluate its projects and programs, according to Elhoudraoa.

“These international companies will provide reports directly to officials at the KSCRHA branch. This is one way to ensure that the aid reaches the intended beneficiaries,” he said. He added that on the nature of volunteers and rehabilitation training to provide assistance abroad, KSCRHA does not differentiate between a man or a woman in giving aid.
