EDDAH: Saudi Arabia has condemned, in the strongest terms, the ongoing violations and crimes being committed by the Bashar Assad’s regime and its cronies

in Syria.

The condemnation came in a statement by Faisal Trad, the permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, on Tuesday.

“Saudi Arabia has made unremitting efforts in cooperation with Friends of Syria Group to ease the sufferings of the Syrian people at all humanitarian levels,” he said. “The volume of aid provided by the Kingdom has amounted to approximately $800 million.”

He made the statement during the Human Rights Council’s Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria.

“The Kingdom has contributed actively to the working team, formed according to the Munich Communiqué to support the United Nations’ efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the besieged areas,” said Trad.

He also emphasized the need for full implementation of Security Council’s Resolution No. 2268, stressing that the commitment of the Syrian regime and its cronies to the cease-fire.

“The facilitation of access to humanitarian aid by the Syrian people would provide a supportive environment for the political process that was kicked off in Geneva under the United Nations’ auspices to reach an entire agreement to be based on the principles of Geneva 1, to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people to build a new future for this country, in which no role will be for Bashar Assad, with an emphasis on maintaining institutions of the Syrian state,” he said.

Trad concluded his statement reaffirming the firm position of the Kingdom in preserving the unity of Syria, its stability and territorial integrity.

The Saudi official once again urged the international community and Security Council to shoulder their historic responsibility and take all necessary procedures for holding Bashar Assad, his regime and cronies accountable for human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity in Syria, besides their support to terrorism.
