RIYADH: King Saud University, one of the Kingdom's premier educational institutions, is atop the list of universities in the entire region in teaching eight modern languages, including English and French, at the graduate level at its College of Languages and Translation.

These two languages entered the programs of the center of European languages and translation at the university 38 years ago, according to an online newspaper.

The College of Languages and Translation has now 2,308 students, of which 1,295 are women and 1,013 men, studying 10 foreign languages. Among them there are 180 students in modern languages including German, Spanish, Russian, Hebrew, Farsi, Turkish, Japanese and Chinese.

The female students of King Saud University's College of Languages and Translation study only English and French. There are 979 female students studying English and 316 studying French.

The college has recently emerged as the most preferred option for female students to study English and French, due to job market requirements.

There are 455 female students in the English language's bachelor's degree program. There are 338 male students in the same program. This is followed by French language program.

Abdurrahman Al-Mansour, dean of the college, said that the College of Languages and Translation was the real channel of the Kingdom for connecting and participating in dialogue with the world.

The college gives an excellent education in languages and translation, keeping in view the idea of a knowledge economy, innovation and contribution to society and the country.

He said that the college has activated its position for creating a comprehensive educational renaissance in the Kingdom, where translation has to play one of the most import roles as a window to communicate with various cultures and civilizations.
