A lecturer from the Laureate Jeddah College of Excellence has been sacked for making derogatory remarks against Islam during his lecture in the class.

The students approached journalists after their complaints to the college administration fell on deaf ears, Al Madinah daily reported.

The students complained that the lecturer ridiculed a Haj ritual. The authorities concerned have called for his immediate deportation, in addition to an apology to all Muslims.

When local journalists went to the office of the dean of the faculty, a person calling himself John refused to answer questions and said they should take an appointment. When the journalists sought an appointment, he reportedly ignored them.

The journalists then went to the official spokesman of the General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training, Fahd Al-Otaibi, who received the complaint of the students, through the media.

Al-Otaibi contacted said that Dr. Ali Al Ghafiess, director-general of the GOTVT, has ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the complaint.

On Tuesday evening, Al Madinah got a written response that the incident had been investigated and the students’ complaint “was legitimate.”
