JEDDAH: A young man has been facing his parents’ rejection for 9 years, even after a registered birth certificate was issued at the Civil Status Department.

The young man, identified as Mamdouh, has lived 15 years in an orphanage in Makkah. After his graduation, when he was at the Civil Status Department, he was surprised to learn that his parents were alive.

Mamdouh was shocked that his parents wouldn’t acknowledge his existence. The mother confirmed at the court that he is the son of one of her neighbors, and that the mother only left him there so she could take care of him.

When he was small, she used to breastfeed him and take care of him until his real mother came and took him; the father agreed on what she said.

According to media reports, when the judge asked the mother about her neighbor’s name, she claimed that she did not know anything about her.

She said that her neighbor asked for her social security card to get Mamdouh from the hospital; she didn’t know that she issued a birth certificate by taking it.

The judge was not convinced of the mother’s claim; thus, based on official documents that he had in his possession, the verdict was that Mamdouh is the legal son and it was agreed by the court.

The branch manager of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Makkah, Abdullah Al-Tawi, said that the issue of the young man is still pending and that this is not their specialty any longer; hoping that he could find the resolution that ends his suffering.
