The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) is out of bounds for most citizens, thanks to its unpopularity due to “poor communication efforts” and “red-tape.”

This has been revealed in a survey conducted by the commission on its websites. Out of the 427 respondents, which itself reflects poorly on the organization, 44.5 percent said they were unhappy with the procedures as they are “complicated,” 36.8 percent said they are OK with the procedures and 18.7 percent chose the “I do not know” column.

The commission is being strongly criticized for its approach in dealing with the media. Some critics believe that it is characterized by bureaucracy and centralization as it has not appointed a spokesperson. Besides, it is claimed that it is difficult to access its officials for information.

In a recent speech, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman had announced issuing of directives to review regulatory hardware systems to ensure the promotion of Nazaha’s powers, so that corruption is eradicated and public money saved.

A local media organization recently reported that soon after the king’s speech, one of its journalists sought to know what steps the anti-corruption body was taking following the king’s directives. However, Nazaha failed to respond to the journalist’s phone calls and e-mails pertaining to the query, the media reported.
