AMMAN: The Saudi National Campaign to support Syrian refugees is gearing up to install water purification units under the project entitled, “My brother drinks clean water,” at refugee camps in Jordan and Syria.

The production capacity of a single unit is estimated to be four cubic meters per hour, Khalid Al-Salamah, the director of the campaign in Turkey, has been quoted as saying by SPA.

He said the project is a reflection of the Saudi government’s recognition of the importance of offering best possible services to the war-affected Syrians. “The campaign’s office in Turkey recently made an inspection tour of the sites of the plants to make sure that they conform to the approved specifications.”

Al-Salamah said lab tests showed that these plants enjoy high technical levels and that work is under way at Al-Rayan. The surrounding refugee camps at the Salamah border crossing area can benefit from them, he said.

The campaign also specifically targets refugees in Idlib and Halab and the surrounding refugee camps, he added.

Bader Al-Samhan, the regional director of the campaign, said the Saudi drive understands Syrians’ pressing need for clean water, which is the basic necessity of life, and places utmost importance on this aspect of aid by providing highly-advanced methods of water purification.

He said this aid (water plants) is a part of the implementation of the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

He said the campaign is a result of generous donations by Saudis for their Syrian brothers and sisters.

Al-Samhan revealed that the Saudi campaign has been continuously distributing bread among Syrian refugees since 2013 through mobile bakeries on the Turkish-Syrian border at a rate of over 60,000 loaves of bread per day.
