DAMMAM: There are several ways to combat crime in this country which includes significant involvement by the community.

This is according to Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Al-Takhis, criminal sociology researcher, who said that among the measures include members of the public reporting any criminal behavior they encounter.

Also, breadwinners must monitor dependent persons, and make sure that the children and young people under their guardianship obey the country’s laws, Al-Takhis said.

Prisons have an important role to play in correcting the behavior of inmates, so that they can become productive members of society. In addition, all security measures taken by the government should have the support of mayors, tribal chiefs and other district officials.

Finally, there should be cooperation between citizens and security agencies, so that citizens become active in keeping their communities safe, he said.

Women exploited

Terrorists operating in the country are increasingly using women to carry out their attacks, including getting them to raise funds and carry explosives. Some women have also been used to spread the ideology of terrorist groups among women and in the media, according to a report in a local publication.

The groups are exploiting women because they can hide explosive devices under their clothes. Several high profile cases involve women including Haila Al-Qussair, known as Mrs. Al-Qaeda, who was convicted of terror-related activities, and a Filipino worker arrested for making suicide belts.
