The three young men who met with an accident at the corniche last week while being chased by a police patrol were creating a nuisance for members of the public, Jeddah police have said.

Several people have complained against motorcyclists creating a ruckus at the corniche and disturbing peace in the area, Jeddah police spokesman Ati Al-Qurashi said.

“When the security patrol received complaints that three youths astride a motorcycle were creating a problem in the area, they tried to stop them. The police were forced to give a chase because the youths tried to escape. The speeding bike hit a sidewalk and the youngsters got injured,” he said.

Two of the motorcyclists are Saudis and one is an Arab expatriate, Al-Qurashi said.

Two of them have been discharged from hospital and an investigation is on, he added.
