Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal will attend a meeting of the consultative committee of the Shoura council in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The 26th regular session of the Shoura Council will be chaired by its president, Dr. Abdullah Al-Asheikh.

The members of the foreign affairs and health committee of the council will also participate in the meeting, the agenda of which is not yet known.

Meanwhile, the council will vote on two memoranda of understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom and its counterpart of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay on Monday. Voting will also be held on an MoU between the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, International Federation of Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies.

The council will also discuss a proposal to impose heavy penalties for cyber crimes, presented by the council's Committee of Transport, Telecom and IT, on the recommendations of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology headed by Minister Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Suwaiyel.

Recently, the council agreed to add claims for defamation in the Kingdom’s anti-cybercrime regulations, meaning that any insult or baseless claim on the Internet could bring judicial penalties for the culprit.

The new amendment was proposed last month by the Committee of Transport, Telecom and IT. The report was read out by committee chairman Jebreel Al-Arishi.

According to Article 6 of the Saudi Anti-Cyber Crime Law, any person who commits cybercrimes shall be subject to imprisonment for a period of up to five years and a fine up to SR3 million. This applies if the culprit produces, prepares, transmits or stores material impinging on public order, religious values and public morals through the information network or computers.
